Uchiwa for Japanese
“Uchiwa” is one of the most popular Japanese summer customs and was used by the nobles of the Nara and Heian periods not only to keep cool but also to hide one's face from the sun or as a decoration.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), bamboo crafts and paper manufacturing techniques developed, so "uchiwa" started to be used in the daily lives of the common people.
This time we will make uchiwa kanzashi and learn how to make goldfish.
In This Lesson:
We will make a Goldfish Uchiwa Kanzashi
Required Technical Level : Middle level~
We will be making the goldfish by deforming maru tsumami the technique of tsumami zaiku and learning how to make uchiwa (Japanese fan) .
Dyeing The Cloth And Making The Uchiwa
You will learn how to dye cloths using acid dye, and how to make the "uchiwa" (Japanese traditional fan) using fabric and wire.
Making Goldfish
You will learn the tips for making the goldfish by deforming the maru tsumami technique, and learning how to adjust the heights of the tsumami.
Arrange Into Kanzashi
You will learn how to assemble and form the water weeds and the uchiwa.
